SisterSong created the national Trust Black Women campaign in 2010 when racist and sexist anti-abortionists pushed harmful propaganda, including launching billboards in multiple states that shamed Black women for their reproductive decisions. SisterSong, along with nine Black women-led Reproductive Justice organizations, responded by convening a partnership to not only counter this propaganda, but transform how the country views and treats Black women.

Since 2010, the Trust Black Women campaign has expanded to include Black women-led organizations across movements to be a united front against any attack on our bodily autonomy. We are spotlighting and addressing all of the intersecting oppressions in Black women’s lives, building and resourcing grassroots organizations to make a greater impact, and mobilizing Black women and our allies in national organizing for our rights. Together, we are making it known that it is past time to Trust Black Women to lead our own free lives.
